I love wrens.

They're so tiny, so agile, and they'll sleep anywhere they can cram into. Literally; there's a subreddit about them doing this. They just get up in the rafters of your porch and tuck themselves into a corner and that's them. 

Kinda jealous, actually.

Anyway, this is one of the two more serious art pieces that made it into the college art show. I worked forever on this, and I think it shows. Lots of detail, many hours adding layers of fluffy plumage to his lil leggy area... and man, don't get me started on the little striped bits. But that's me, choosing a complex bird to draw.

Actually, no, I take it back. The grackle was harder because it's mostly black. Any black bird with subtle sheens of other colours are not my strong suit at all. So really, I'd draw wrens any day of the week instead of melting my brain trying to get a grackle to shine properly. Don't even get me started on starlings.
