And that, my dear reader, was like 30% of the problem.
I drew this guy like, a decade ago, and as you can see by the plain sketch I did, I wasn't great at capturing his underfluffies. I also wasn't great at not making him rotund. Actually, now that I think about it, every bird I draw, on the first go, is a round blob of a thing. But the great thing about pencil drawings is that I can erase parts and de-chonkify, though it appears I forgot that pertinent info on this go.
So we did it in post.
In many, many stages. It turns out my friends like their birds chonky (which clearly I'm a fan of as well), so most folk told me to leave him alone and stop fat-shaming. As if I would ever.
Anyway, I trimmed him down and fixed his underfluffies, then attempted to add appropriate shading, as he's hiding in a flowering bush of some kind (googled "flowering shrubs" and just went with it), and now we have what you see below.
If you'd like to see how it went from start to finish, check out my Instagram post below. If not, you can just ogle the final result. Clicking on each will take you to the related Instagram post.
